Stallion and Foals

Stallions do know their own foals. They protect and teach.

If a mare is getting bred back I will put her and her foal with the stallion on day 10. If the mare is not being bred back the foal will move in with dad when they are weaned.

The stallion teaches play (different for boys and girls). He also demands respect and teaches them to follow rules. He is in charge of the socialization.

Handling foals that have been trained by their father is so much easier because they have been taught manners!

Stallion Facts

Most stallions live in isolation which makes them frustrated and hard to control.

Letting you stallion live with other horses, mares in the summer, other males in the winter, and of course with their children creates a happy stallion and one much easier to handle.

The first year I let my stallion live with his mares and babies I could not believe the difference. When going to a show I had a respectful easy to handle horse, not of the fighting, trying to get at other horse, etc.

When we got home it was a different story. On our toes and ready he had to check every inch of the property to make sure that no one touched his space or the ladies. As soon as that was taken care of we had out happy stallion back.
